APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Types of Educational Institutions in New Zealand

• Universities : There are 8 Government‐funded universities providing undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes.
• Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics : A popular option is to study at one of the 16 government funded Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics. They offer a wide variety of programmes which can be both academically and vocationally focused.
• Private Tertiary and Training Establishments : There are a growing number of private tertiary and training providers offering an alternative study option. They offer a range of programmes including professional certificates, diplomas and degrees in a diverse range of subjects including art, the hospitality industry, computer studies, secretarial studies, quality management, ecotourism and others.

Intakes and Deadlines

• There are generally two Intakes in New Zealand: February and July.
• However ITPs and Private Institutes may have different Intakes for different courses. Practically there is an intake every month in some or the other institution resulting in recruitment throughout the year.

• There is no deadline as such in New Zealand but it is recommended to sent applications at least 4 months prior to the start date to avoid end moment troubles.

Entry Requirements

• For Undergraduate Diploma & Bachelors Degree: 12th with 50% to 70% range.
• For Graduate Diploma, PG Diploma, Masters : Bachelors with 55% and above.

• Undergraduate Diploma, Bachelors Degree & Graduate Diploma: IELTS 6.0 with no bands less then 5.5.

• Post Graduate Diplomas & Masters : IELTS 6.5 with no band less than 6.0.

Document Checklist

• Correct application form.

• A Statement of purpose (for Masters & PG Diploma only).
• 2 Letters of Recommendation (for Masters & PG Diploma only) and Work
• Experience if any.
• IELTS, PTE or TOEFL Score Card.
• Duly attested Degree/Provisional/Completion Certificate and all the Mark sheets of Bachelors.
• Duly attested Passing Certificates & Mark sheets of 12th Std or Intermediate & 10th Std.
• If the 10th or 12th Mark sheet contains only the subject codes, subject key should be mentioned.
• Copy of Passport (1st & last page).
• All the documents should be notarized for the University applications only.

Funds Transfer Scheme

• FTS is an option given to the students who are genuine and do not have funds from the last 6 months in the bank account of the parents.
• The students will need to transfer at least 12 months living expenses to a bank account in NZ, ANZ Bank, in addition to paying the tuition fee for 1 year. The amount deposited in the bank is locked for a period of 12 months and then drip fed to the student on a prearranged basis. The above fund transfer and payment of one year tuition fee is to be done only and after the AIP (Approval in principle) is received.
• The student will get NZ $ 1250 per month for living expenses once in NZ.

• If the course duration is less than or equal to one academic year, then provide documentary evidence of funds for tuition fee for the entire course duration + NZ$ 15,000 towards living expenses in New Zealand.
• If the duration of course is longer than one academic year then provide documentary evidence of funds for tuition fee for 1 academic year + NZ$ 15,000 per annum towards living expenses in New Zealand + payment plan to show the student has access to funds and has ability to meet the rest of the course cost and living expenses in New Zealand.

• Education Loan Sanction Letter from nationalized or multi nationalized bank.
• Latest Bank account statements for the past 6 months. It should not be more than 1 week old at the time of lodgment of application.
• Fixed Deposits copy and Balance Certificate from Bank.
• PPF/ PF/ GPF Withdraw able amount.
• Post Office Accounts.
• National Saving Certificates.

STUDENT WORK RIGHTS

• Eligible students can work up to 20 hours in any given week during the academic year.
• Students undertaking a course of 12 months or more may work full‐time during the holidays.
• A partner of an eligible student may apply for a work permit for full time working valid for the duration of the study course, only if the student is an applicant for a full time course of Level 7 in areas as specified in the Long Term Skill Shortage List. However partners of all students on study course of Level 8 and above can work full time without any condition.
• The student after completion of studies in NZ and graduating can hold a 12 months Graduate Job Search visa which enables him to start working in any job (not relevant to qualification also).
• Graduates with Long Term Skilled Job offer that is relevant to their qualification, can apply for a Graduate Work Experience Visa for two years after their 12 months Graduate Job Search Visa is over.
• For Qualifying to Work after studies the student needs to fulfill any one of the following Academic requirements.
• Qualification at Level 7 and above for at least 1 academic year.
• Single qualification of two years at Level 4‐6.
• Two qualifications at Level 4‐6 each requiring at least 1 academic year provided the second qualification is at a higher level than the first (2 years study in New Zealand in total).
